London Philharmonic Orchestra & Dmytro Udovychenko. Great emotions from a great orchestra. Did you know that jazz legend John Coltrane opened his iconic A Love Supreme with a quote from Sibelius's Fifth Symphony? What a tribute! Alban Berg also paid homage, in his case to the untimely deceased Manon, the young daughter of architect Walter Gropius and Alma Mahler. Berg's Violin Concerto ‘To the Memory of an Angel’ became his most performed work. The London Philharmonic Orchestra do these classics full justice and perfume the whole with new notes by Frederik Neyrinck. Tickets: €19,50-73. 20 Sep, 20:00. Concertgebouw, ‘t Zand, 34.

London Philharmonic Orchestra & Dmytro Udovychenko - Concertgebouw Brugge

EVERY-BODY-KNOWS-WHAT-TOMORROW- BRINGS-AND-WE-ALLKNOW- WHAT-HAPPENED-YESTERDAY - Mohamed. After a moving duet with his mother, Mohamed Toukabri returns solo, with a powerful dance performance that confronts, questions and connects-over what we keep, forget or rewrite. In 2023, Mohamed Toukabri captured the hearts of Bruges audiences with a moving duet with his mother. Now he is alone on stage. Starting from the urgency to decolonise the imagination, Mohamed Toukabri creates a space where dance traditions dialogue with each other. The title of the performance is both a provocation and a reminder: what responsibility do we bear in what we pass on, in what we erase or perpetuate? It is an invitation to look beyond the familiar, to a dance in which all bodies and histories belong. Free introduction at 7.15pm in the foyer. Tickets: €9-18. 20 Sep, 20:00-21:00. MaZ, Magdalenastraat 27.

Trots en Troost (Pride and Solace) - medieval books of hours and their readers.

Little books full of fervent prayers and breathtaking miniatures; books of hours were more precious than jewels to people of medieval times. They served as a powerful tool to ward off calamity and disease and to prepare a favourable fate in the afterlife. Today, they offer us an intimate look into the desires and fears of our ancestors.

But there is more: why did influential ladies and gentlemen commission portraits of themselves with a book of hours by masters such as Petrus Christus or Hans Memling? What did this reveal about their identity, status and ambitions? This collection presentation invites you to look beyond the glittering gold leaf and vibrant miniatures. Immerse yourself in a world of hope, intentions and image and discover the deeper meaning of these medieval bestsellers.

The exhibition "Trots & Troost" gathers never-before-shown medieval books of hours, paintings, and objects from the collections of the Public Library, Musea Brugge, the Jean van Caloen Foundation, and the Flemish Government. Tickets: €15 (FREE for Brugge residents). Until 7 Oct. Groenigemuseum, Dijver 12.

Omasta plays Madlib. Polish jazz is hot and happening. Around the record store Paul’s Boutique in Krakow and the trendy Astigmatic Records label, a scene is emerging filled with promising musicians who blend their jazz education with a deep love for hip-hop and electronic music.

Astigmatic Records already boasts two hits on its roster—EABS and BLOTO—and is also backing Omasta, a five-piece group drawing inspiration from street culture and jazz. Omasta made a stylish debut with a vibrant live set at Paul’s Boutique, paying tribute to hip-hop legend J Dilla. Building on the success of their debut, they toured Europe in celebration of "Dilla Month", including a sold-out show at AB Club.

This September, Omasta hits the road again—this time diving into the work of another legendary hip-hop beatmaker: Madlib, known for his vast musical knowledge and obsession with sampling. Fans of adventurous jazz and old-school hip-hop, take note! This event is in association with KAAP, a Bruges/Ostend cultural group.  Tickets: €8,50-18. 21 Sep, 19:30.
