The big summer festivals have wound down, and Bruges settles back into its own rhythm — a quieter, gentler week, ideal for slow wandering, canal-side terraces and a couple of standout evenings. A hot start gives way to a fresher, more changeable weekend, so plan the outdoor moments for the first half of the week.

🎹 Alfa Mist — Thursday 13 August, Gruuthuse courtyard. The closing night of Brugge Centraal is a real treat. The East London multi-instrumentalist, producer and rapper brings his celebrated blend of intimate bedroom production and lush jazz orchestration to the atmospheric inner courtyard of the Gruuthuse, one of the loveliest concert settings in the city. The two headline exhibitions in Bruges' new gallery are entering their final month — well worth catching if you haven't yet. 🍺 Brugs Bierfestival — Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 September, BMCC (Beursplein). Four weeks out but worth planning for: the 18th edition of Bruges' international beer festival, with around 60 breweries presenting some 400 beers, from timeless classics to exclusive specials, in a modern hall a short walk from the historic centre. This year is extra special, marking ten years of Belgian beer culture as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Free entry; tasting glasses and tokens on site, plus live music both days. ⚽ No home fixtures at Jan Breydel this week — Club Brugge play away at OH Leuven on Saturday 15 August (20:45). The next home match is the eagerly awaited Bruges derby against Cercle Brugge at Jan Breydel on Sunday 23 August (18:30) — one of the highlights of the local sporting calendar, and well worth planning around if you're in the city next weekend. 🚴 Cycling. Ride early this week — Thursday and Friday are hot. The shaded Damse Vaart to Damme is the pick, best enjoyed before midday or in the cooler evening.

A week of two halves. It starts hot: Thursday and Friday reach around 33–34°C under strong sunshine — proper heat, so hydrate, seek shade in the middle of the day, and make the most of the Sasplein and the pools. From Saturday 15 August a marked change arrives: temperatures drop to a fresher 23–25°C with more cloud and a stiffer breeze. Sunday and into next week turn more unsettled, around 21–23°C, with a 50–70% chance of showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday — the classic Belgian summer mix.
