To this day, he continues to improvise and create beauty. He had classical training, but draws inspiration from all genres from techno to pop and rock. Molly Lewis. The American artist Molly Lewis is a unique phenomenon. Describing her simply as a flautist is hardly revolutionary—until you mention that Lewis needs no instrument. She performs her intoxicating and loungy pieces using only her lips, a technical feat that few master as purely as Lewis.
Molly Lewis broke through with two EPs: the exotica?drenched debut ‘The Forgotten Edge’ (2021) and the tropicália? influenced ‘Mirage’ (2022). Her debut album ‘On The Lips’ was released in 2024 on Jagjaguar—home to greats like Bon Iver, Angel Olsen, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Sharon Van Etten.
On ‘On The Lips’, Molly Lewis invites the listener into Café Molly—a mist?shrouded space where the atmosphere of Hollywood jazz clubs, spaghetti westerns, and elegantly intoxicated romance hangs in the drapes. The album was recorded with producer Thomas Brenneck of the Menahan Street Band. Contributions also came from artists such as Nick Hakim, Brazilian guitarist Rogê, BadBadNotGood, Thee Sacred Souls, experimental jazz pianist Marco Benevento, and Leon Michels of El Michels Affair.
With her intoxicating compositions and witty stage presence, Molly Lewis is ready to join her heroes in the rich history of the Los Angeles lounge scene—and beyond. On Sunday evening, Cactus Café transforms into Café Molly. Order your favorite drink and let yourself be seduced by ‘On The Lips’. Tickets: €12-19. Cactusmuziekcentrum, Bargeweg, 10. 19 Oct, 19:30. https://cactusmusic.be/EN/Concerts/Calendar/molly-lewis
