🎻 MA Festival — Fri 31 July to Sun 9 Aug, Concertgebouw and across the city. Bruges' internationally renowned early music festival returns for ten days, and it opens tonight. This is one of the great specialist festivals in Europe — a daring, thoughtful programme of early and baroque music in the historical settings it was written for. Tonight (Friday 31 July, 20:00) the festival opens in style with the outstanding baroque orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro, bringing two symphonies and a Mozart concerto, preceded by a new work from this summer's Younger than Jesus, composer Siebe Thijs. The week continues with Pseudonym (early 17th-century Italian music), cellist Ronan Kernoa playing Bach suites amid a flower-meadow installation by artist Nel Maertens, and pianist Jiaxin Min making the case for early music on the modern piano. ⚽ Volkswagen Supercup: Club Brugge v Union SG — Tonight, Friday 31 July, 20:30, Jan Breydel. Football is back. The champions host the cup winners in the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season — the first trophy of 2026–27 and a proper marker of intent for both sides. Tickets and info at clubbrugge.be.

MA Festival across the city. Beyond the concert hall, the festival takes over churches, gardens and the countryside — including a VéloBaroque musical bike ride mapping a 30km route through the Bruges countryside with five 30-minute concert stops. 🔜 Coming Wednesday 5 August — Brugge Centraal opens. The city's new summer festival, from Stad Brugge and Cactus, launches on the final day of our weekly window and runs to 13 August. It opens with Raymond van het Groenewoud at the atmospheric Gruuthuse courtyard (20:00, seated), followed across the week by Tom McRae, a free open-air night on the Burg (Kraantje Pappie, 't Hof Van Commerce, S10, NAFT and Blu Samu, Friday 7 Aug), and the return of Benenwerk. 🚴 Cycling. The MA Festival's VéloBaroque (above) is a lovely one-off, but the Damse Vaart to Damme is always there — flat, shaded and gorgeous in the warm week ahead.

Warm, summery and mostly settled — good news for a festival-heavy week. Expect high temperatures building to a warm 27–29°C by the weekend, with plenty of sunshine and only a small chance of a passing shower. Nights are mild at 15–18°C. Wednesday 5 August is the windiest day, though still warm — worth a note for anyone heading to the open-air Brugge Centraal launch that evening. Sunset is around 21:30, so long light evenings continue. Suncream and a hat for the daytime, a light layer for after dark. Latest forecast: meteo.be
