🎨 🎻 🧺  Art, Music & Markets

Exhibition: Fragmenten. Sophie Van den Berghe draws inspiration from travel photographs, film stills, and everyday surroundings. From this material she extracts details that, once enlarged and translated into paint, take on a new life on canvas. The paintings never reveal the full image but focus on fragments that suggest new narratives of their own.

At times, a single moment is magnified into an almost monumental presence. In doing so, the artist invites viewers to engage their imagination and create an inner story of their own.In certain works, diptychs emerge, sometimes deliberately, sometimes unconsciously, where fragments enter into dialogue. What connects all the works is the subtle tension between presence and absence. Through the palpable sense of emptiness, the paintings evoke emotions of nostalgia, longing, and stillness.

As always, Sophie Van den Berghe returns to the métier of painting: layered, carefully constructed, and rooted in the tradition of the craft. The result is a series of intimate, timeless works that reveal as much as they conceal. Until 9 Nov. FREE. Peepshow Gallery, Genthof 8. https://www.peepshowartgallery.com/

Afanador. For Afanador, Spanish choreographer and crowd-pleaser Marcos Morau drew inspiration from flamenco. Along with thirty dancers from the Ballet Nacional de España, he creates a stunning fusion between the world of photographer Ruvén Afanador (known for Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone) and contemporary dance. A black-and-white collage of images and poses unfolds in a succession of scenes, driven by the fervor of flamenco dance. Tickets: €26,50-53. 5 Nov, 20:00. TTSSFU. Ever since she was sixteen, Tasmin Nicole Stephens has been releasing tracks on SoundCloud, which she writes, records, and produces herself in her bedroom in Manchester. Under the name TTSSFU, she freely draws inspiration from the musical magic of the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s. The mystery and gothic cool of The Cure are combined by TTSSFU with the pace of The Strokes and The Drums, layers of MBV-style guitar effects, and sonic experimentation inspired by Sonic Youth.

In 2024, TTSSFU signed with indie label Partisan Records (Idles, Beth Orton, PJ Harvey) and released her first official EP: ‘Me, Jed and Andy’, which she fully produced, mixed, and mastered herself. That year, TTSSFU performed at tastemaker festivals like Green Man and Manchester Psych Fest, and she supported Soccer Mommy, Mannequin Pussy, and English Teacher on their UK tours. In the meantime, TTSSFU continues to grow organically – her single ‘I Hope You Die’ recently surpassed 650,000 streams on YouTube – and a second EP and debut album are in the works. A bright future seems certain! Discover TTSSFU live at Cactus Café before it all blows up!

SALVIA. Nicole Selivan was only 20 when she fled the war in her home country, Ukraine, two years ago. In Brussels, she met King Viktor members Arno De Ros and Tom Stokx (The Haunted Youth), and under the magically mystical banner of SALVIA, they joined forces musically. A tight bassline and pulsating electronic drums give their music a dark yet dreamy energy, reminiscent of the dreampop, new wave, and gothic alternative of bands like Boy Harsher, Lebanon Hanover, Current Joys, and The Cure.

Debut single ‘Time’ bathes in the same dark indie atmosphere inhabited by bands such as Whispering Sons and – not coincidentally – The Haunted Youth. With this track, SALVIA was also selected for the finals of De Nieuwe Lichting 2025 by Studio Brussel.

Tickets: €11-17. 3 Nov, 19:30. Cactusmuziekcentrum, Bargeweg, 10.
